Svale's Jackfish Lake is a small Canadian Shield lake named for my father-in-law, who owned a cabin on a chain nearby, in the Red Lake District of Ontario, Canada. This otherwise unnamed little body of water teamed with Northern Pike and rimmed with rock outcroppings...a very picturesque little lake that we enjoyed fishing.
I studied at the University of Iowa's School of Art, where I majored in Photography and minored in two other mediums: Painting and Serigraphy. The landscape is a favored subject in my photography, paintings and drawings; while birds are a favorite subject in my serigraphy and drawings. The photographic landscape is treated in large and medium formats. In painting I prefer a plein air approach and these works are smaller in scale. My work in serigraphy plays upon a more graphic approach of shape, color and line. My interests have always been torn between the camera and the canvas, between birds and the landscape; now particularly the "Prairie". I grew up in the timber of the Des Moines River valley in NW Iowa and later in my life became...
