About Bruce Morrison

Bruce Morrison I studied at the University of Iowa's School of Art, where I majored in Photography and minored in two other mediums: Painting and Serigraphy. The landscape is a favored subject in my photography, paintings and drawings; while birds are a favorite subject in my serigraphy and drawings. The photographic landscape is treated in large and medium formats. In painting I prefer a plein air approach and these works are smaller in scale. My work in serigraphy plays upon a more graphic approach of shape, color and line.

My interests have always been torn between the camera and the canvas, between birds and the landscape; now particularly the "Prairie". I grew up in the timber of the Des Moines River valley in NW Iowa and later in my life became engrossed in the tallgrass prairie, our true natural heritage of this area and state. Our region is what it is today, because of this heritage, and I found myself becoming involved in prairie reconstruction and restoration work, for both public and private individuals and projects.

My wife and I now make our home on a prairie remnant in NW Iowa, along the hillside of the valley which hosts Waterman Creek. I freelance full-time as an artist and photographer, working on many types of projects that involve our natural heritage - from painting for galleries, creating educational displays and computer kiosks for Nature Centers, nature related grant work, photography work for magazines and calendars, and doing volunteer work for projects involving our natural areas.
